Guildless is a quest from Act I of The Age of Decadence. Half of the Backgrounds automatically start with it: Drifter, Grifter, Loremaster and Mercenary. Those who already belong to an institution may end up with this quest later in Act I (if they are kicked out for incompetence or insubordination).

- Neleos may admit you to the Boatmen of Styx if you express interest in killing ([Body Count]:[1] check). He introduces you to the crew, and your first mission for the guild will be The Aurelian Spies.
- Linos may hire you for the Commercium if your Reputation with them is not negative. Your first mission for them will be Linos' Test.
- At the Barracks, the Imperial Guards may take a new recruit whose Strength is at least [5]. Your first mission for them will be The End Justifies the Means.
- At the Tavern, Cado may let you join the Forty Thieves if you Steal:[2] from one of his thugs right then and there. Your first mission for them will be Taking Care of Business.
- If, for whatever reason, you depart for Maadoran without having joined a guild, you can try your luck by talking to Maseus or Darista in Maadoran Merchants Plaza or to the guard near Imperial Guards Fort in Maadoran Arena district. You will need to pass a reputation and loyalty check with the respective faction as well as Charisma:[6] check for Commercium and Body Count:[5] check for Imperial Guards and Boatmen of Styx.
